Welcome Note

Fertilizer Canada is pleased to invite members to our 73rd Annual Conference in Quebec City, QC from Aug. 20 to 22, 2018.

Attended by delegates involved in all aspects of the fertilizer industry and related sectors, Fertilizer Canada’s Annual Conference offers a chance for collective collaboration on current hot topic issues and upcoming opportunities for positive growth. This year’s “Value Add” theme will highlight innovation, economic growth, sustainability and the increased visibility of the agri-food sector through speaker sessions, networking opportunities and industry meetings. Nutrients For Life will also be hosting their 11th Annual Golf Tournament.

Companion Program

Discover the Île d’Orléans on the “road of all flavours” (la route des saveurs) only minutes away from the heart of Quebec City. This route was given the name because of the rich history and culture that can be discovered and explored along the way. A list of all registered delegates will be provided to attendees. Please note that your name, address and company will appear exactly as you have indicated on your registration form.

All cancellations must be sent in writing to Fertilizer Canada. Full refunds less a $30.00 administration fee will be made on cancellations received on or before July 20, 2018. Cancellations after July 20, 2018 will be eligible for a refund of 50% up to August 7, 2018. No refunds will be granted after August 7, 2018, however substitutions are welcome. There will be no refunds for no-shows. To transfer your registration to another person in your company, please contact Kim Devison at Fertilizer Canada ( as soon as possible.

Antoine Ramspacher

Antoine Ramspacher is a Partner and co-founder of RAMS & Co, a strategy and corporate finance advisory boutique based in Paris. He was a Partner at Corporate Value Associates (CVA) and leader of the Mining, Metals and Materials practice. During its twenty years in strategy consulting, he has advised CEOs and senior management of many different heavy industries from mining (iron ore, manganese, aluminum, copper, precious metals, nickel, …) to chemicals (petchems, fertilizers, pigments and coatings, specialties), as well as financial institutions involved in these businesses (private equities, sovereign funds). His work covers a wide range of corporate strategic issues: corporate portfolio review, business resilience, M&A, growth strategies, routes to market, commercial value enhancement, sales performance, industrial optimization and turnarounds.

More specifically, Antoine has been working for fifteen years in the fertilizer industry spanning nitrogen, phosphate, and potash, on the commodity side of the business as well as its specialty and non-agrI fringes.

Antoine holds a MSc in Industrial Economics from the Ecole Centrale Paris and a BSc in Physics from the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Paris). He teaches strategy and quantitative economics at the Ecole Centrale Paris.

Dr. Thomas Morris

Dr. Thomas Morris is a professor of soil fertility and director of the soil nutrient analysis laboratory at the University of Connecticut. He has a 3-way appointment at UConn: extension, research and teaching. Tom teaches the undergraduate soil fertility course at UConn and performs research primarily on fertilizer and manure management in corn, vegetables and turfgrass. His research results are used in education programs for farmers, homeowners, and environmentalists. Tom also is a technical advisor to the Environmental Defense Fund on their NurientStar program, and a member NutrientStar’s Science Review Panel.

Jean-Jacques Ruest

Jean-Jacques Ruest was appointed Interim President and Chief Executive Officer in March 2018, in addition to retaining his position as Executive Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer, to which he had been named in January 2010. As CMO, he has responsibility for providing the strategic direction and leadership for CN’s Sales, Marketing and CN Supply Chain Solutions groups.
Mr. Ruest joined CN in 1996 as Vice-President, Petroleum and Chemicals. He was appointed Vice-President, Industrial Products in 2003, Vice-President, Marketing in 2004, and Senior Vice-President, Marketing in June 2006. Prior to this, Mr. Ruest worked for 16 years at a major international chemical company.

Mr. Ruest holds a Masters in Business Administration in Marketing from HEC Montréal (Université de Montréal) and a Bachelor of Science degree in applied chemistry from Université de Sherbrooke. He also completed the executive program of the University of Michigan Business School, and CN’s Railroad MBA program.

J.P. Gervais

J.P. Gervais is Vice-President and Chief Agricultural Economist at Farm Credit Canada (FCC). J.P. has over 20 years of experience analyzing domestic and international agricultural policies and markets, and his insights help guide strategy and monitor risk throughout the corporation. He’s often asked to speak on global trends and the linkages to agri-food markets, and comments on the agriculture industry through video and the FCC Ag Economics blog. J.P. has a Ph.D. in economics and is past-president of the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society.


This year’s tournament will be held at the Royal Quebec Golf Club on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018.

Golf Course Information

Founded in 1874 and established in Boischatel since 1925, the Royal Québec Golf Club is a semi-private, high-end club. Offering 36 holes and considered one of the oldest clubs in America, you will find it has a typical country club atmosphere.

Located just steps away from Montmorency Falls and just minutes from the Old Capital, this estate consists mainly of majestic conifers dating back to the beginning of the last century. The clubhouse, which overlooks the green of the 18th hole of the Québec course, is a true heritage gem. Its panoramic windows provide a spectacular view over Île d’Orléans and the City of Québec.


The Royal Québec Golf Club is approximately a 25 minute drive from the Fairmont Château Frontenac. Transportation via charter bus will be provided. The bus will depart the hotel at 6:30 a.m.
